| | | | THE TISC TEAM
What on earth does TISC stand for? Well, to many music lovers it’s a well known abbreviation, at least in Italy where The Icelandic Scout Choir gave it’s first overseas performance in May 2003, making women and children cry of joy and local tenors, baritones and bass singers shiver in despair – well some of them at least.
Who are the TISC people? TISC is a joyful crowd consisting of 40-50 rovers and older scouts (in Iceland both girls and boys are scouts) who meet weekly to sing and have fun. Though the main objective of their weekly meetings is to sing, the team also takes on several tasks and projects where singing skills are not required! These tasks vary from time to time but they are all related to supporting Scouting in Iceland. Having that in mind one can certainly say that the TISC-team is the most active and effective St. George’s Gild in Iceland.
Encouraging work The TISC-team has been active for many years and plays an important role in the Icelandic scout culture. By their work, appearances, concerts, projects etc. they inspire and encourage other scouts to make music a bigger part of their daily activities. Not only do they encourage singing but playing instruments as well since many team members are also skilful instrument players.
Conservation of treasures Another important role of the TISC-team, the most important some would say, is the conservation of lyrics and songs that have been popular somewhere along our nearly 100 years of Scouting. This is of course a huge task to take on, costing both precious time and lots and lots of silver. The first big step toward this goal was made in the year of 2002 when the TISC-team published it’s first (but not last) CD, containing 19 scout songs, arranged by professionals for choir and recorded over 3 months period with a small brass band and traditional campfire band of course, including guitars, banjo, harmonica and a ¾ contrabass, slightly sunbursted.
Active team If you accomplished to read all this you must now realise that the TISC-team is an active one and very important for scouting in many ways through their work and activities. Speaking of activities I must mention some of their latest projects. In 2002 they published their first CD which is a “must-buy” for every Scout and Guide. That same year they played an important role at the National Jamboree with their performance and work contribution. Their next project was the musical “Kardemomme by” by Thorbjørn Egner which was a huge success, tickets being sold out in a big theatre more than once. In 2003 they were invited on a tour all over Italy, giving autographs in Venice and concerts in Verona and by Lake Garda and more. They are working hard on their next CD, expected sometime in the year of 2005 and the hear-saying is that the first shipment is already sold out!
TISC-team in your associtation? I truly believe that a TISC-team should be active in every association and I know that you can agree on that. The TISC-team would very much like to contribute their experience and knowledge to everyone interested so please don’t hesitate to contact them.
Contact them now! If you are totally enchanted by this reading then take a deep breath or two (don’t forget to exhale). I hired an expensive agency to write this brochure and you know how they work – making you want something you don’t really need! However, if you are interested in knowing more about the TISC-team you should immediately contact their overseas correspondent which of course is Santa-Clause, we just call him Santa and his e-mail address is santa@itn.is so please don’t hesitate to send him a line if you would like to know more. If you don’t believe in Santa-Clause you could just visit their website (www.scout.is/skatakorinn), click on the “English” button and there you’ll find all the info you need to contact the TISC-team without having to involve Santa. If you only read French then you are in trouble, sorry we don’t have any info in French at the moment but since you can’t read this either then you probably won’t loose any sleep over that.
That’s all! Although the TISC-team hasn’t accepted me in the choir, me being an excellent soprano, I support them 110% and I’m ready to travel anywhere, anytime as long as your association finds some ways to get financial support for my travel expenses – and their of course!
Nice talking to you and I hope we meet again – please pass this brochure on – making some photocopies at home would be a good idea!
Yours in Scouting and Guiding, Mr. Hreggviður Hreðjalausi - TISC Fan Club ---------- :: Message to webmaster |
