The Ulfljótsvatn Scout Centre
Úlfljótsvatn is approx. 45 km from the capital city of Iceland, Reykjavík. Úlfljótsvatn has been the center for outdoors activities, leader training and summer camp for scouts and guides in Iceland, since 1941.
Camping site
The camping site at Lake Ulfljotsvatn is one of the biggest in Iceland and of the highest standard of camping sites in Iceland. It can host Jamborees and camps up to 5000 particapants. It has a special caravan site with water and electricity. There are 28 water toilets at the main camping site. It is possible to get access to indoor cooking facilities for large and small groups at the camping ground. The camping site has 8 hot showers. There is a swimming pool located near the center. The camping site is open to public, and small and large groups. We have one life camera at Ulfljotsvatn where everyone can see a little of the activity going on, but this is only small angle of the site http://81.15.23.59/Aview.htm
Friends of nature
The center was recognized as a SCENE Center by WOSM in March 2000. The nature is beautiful and outdoor activities are many with nature trail, adventure trail and water safari. thousands of trees have been planted near the center in the last 15 years. There is a climbing and abseiling tower in the DSÚ area. Fishing is good in the lake and both canoes, kayaks, rowing boats and todays most popular boats are 4 persons pedal boats. The boats are available on a renting basis.
Groups from abroad scouts-guides-students-others
In recent years it has increased that groups from abroad travelling to Iceland visit our center for a short or long staying. These are mostly groups of young people with leaders, groups interested in outdoor activities and are not searching for indoor hotel service. Most of them are requesting the basic campsite service, a space to put down their tent(s) for short or long time. Other are requesting more service, from renting equipment such as tents, cooking equipments etc. while staying. Some of them want prepared food for them while other request the food material and equipment and place to prepare it. The programme they are requesting can be very different, from just using what is on the site, to guided hike tours from the site, sailing og biking trip out of the site, or going on a guided bus tours further away while sleeping at the camp site. There are lot of possibilities on daytours out of the camp both on foot or taking bus to the nearest glacier or to a horse renting farm. All this can we assist you with - just contact us and tell us about your wishes during your visit and we will see if we can not fulfill your dream visit and quote you the price.
